What is a Chiropractor?
Chiropractors are manual therapists who provide diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system, extremities and joints.
Chiropractors use a combination of treatments, depending on the specific needs and condition(s) of the individual patient. You will start your first visit with an initial assessment which includes a history of your current complaint or concern, as well as a general health history afterwhich an examination will be performed in order to establish a diagnosis, and carry out a comprehensive treatment plans that is based on these findings. Therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies as well as nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling may also take place when deemed necessary.
What Does a Chiropractor Do?
Chiropractors utilize multiple modes of treatment to assist their patients. These treatments include spinal manipulative therapy or “adjustments”, mobilizations, soft tissue therapy to release muscle tension, therapeutic modalities, kinesiotaping and home exercise prescription.
What is Chiropractic Care Good For?
For many conditions, such as low back pain, chiropractic care is the primary method of treatment. When a multi-disciplinary approach is advisable, a chiropractor will coordinate care with other health care professionals. Where other conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical or other treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.
Chiropractic care may also be used to provide symptomatic relief for patients with chronic conditions and can be utilized as a maintenance treatment.
After a chiropractic treatment, you can expect an increase in range of motion or a decrease in muscle and joint tension.
